WHAT IS ABDOMINOPLASTY?

Abdominoplasty, also known as a Lipectomy, is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the abdomen by removing excess skin and fat, and tightening the abdominal muscles.

This procedure is ideal for those who have experienced significant weight loss, have been through pregnancy, and/or have excess skin and tissue in the abdominal area that cannot be removed through diet and exercise alone.

The procedure is performed through an incision usually located in the lower abdomen. In some cases, an additional incision is made around the navel, depending on the extent of the excess skin.
Abdominoplasty can be combined with liposuction to improve abdominal contour and achieve a more slender and more harmonious figure.

Benefits of an Abdominoplasty:

  • Significant reduction of excess skin and fat: Thanks to this approach, we can achieve an effective removal of excess tissue, resulting in a beautiful waistline.
  • Restoration of the abdominal muscles: The abdominal muscles are repaired and tightened with a plication, which corrects the common muscle separation after pregnancy or weight loss known as abdominal diastasis.
  • Notable aesthetic improvements: The results are adapted to the body proportions of each patient, achieving a more aesthetic abdomen and a more defined body contour.
  • Efficient recovery: The conservative approach allows for a faster recovery, with a return to daily routine in approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

Recovery:

Initial recovery usually lasts 2 to 3 weeks. During this time, moderate rest is recommended, avoiding strenuous activities and heavy lifting. Driving can be resumed after two weeks, and after one month, intense physical exercise can be restarted.

A post-surgery girdle should be used to help the skin adapt to the new contours.

Types of Abdominoplasty:

  1. Miniabdominoplasty: for those patients who don’t require a plication of their rectoabdominal muscles.
  2. Reverse abdominoplasty: ideal for patients who also want breast lift surgery. This way, the incision can be used to remove excess skin.
  3. Lipoabdominoplasty: is performed to remove excess skin and create more contouring in the abdominal area.
